Innovations and safety: Groupama Stadium at the forefront of the spectator experience
Offering optimal conditions for spectators, Groupama Stadium is a pioneer in the art of providing a unique experience. Whatever their place in the stadium, this ‘English-style’ stadium ensures maximum comfort and visibility for all its supporters.
The stadium has no fewer than 59,000 seats. A state-of-the-art stadium, it has been designed to be a veritable temple to digital technology, with a dedicated application, connected screens, interactive games in real time and in-seat ordering. The aim is to revolutionise the spectator experience at matches!
Anti-projectile nets, a UEFA decision
Following a number of disturbances, the UEFA management decided to take a tough stance against troublemakers. Measures have therefore been taken to protect spectators and players, but also to preserve the spectacle of the matches. To deal with these disruptions, the Olympique Lyonnais stadium, Groupama Stadium, has been equipped with anti-projectile nets in front of the two bends. The introduction of these nets remains highly controversial, as they are said to make it less comfortable for supporters to watch the match.
For the OL/Hoffenheim match on Wednesday 7 November, Groupama Stadium was used as an experimental stadium for this measure, which was designed to protect the pitch from any harmful actions by certain troublemakers.
A project made by SPS Filets!
SPS Filets was awarded the contract to equip the Groupama Stadium with these nets. The Sécurité BTP division was asked to respond to this invitation to tender. The nets each measure 74 m x 15 m. They are made from 3 mm Polypropylene rope, 50 mm square mesh, knotless, black.
In order to meet the specifications set by UEFA and the regulations for public places, the nets have been treated with Flame Retardant B1 DIN 4102-1. This product certification enables the nets to meet the fire-retardant standard imposed in public places such as trade fairs and events. This is a French classification standard.
